a month agoWubet, the owner, is amazing, she treated us like royalty, telling us all about each item she served us on the platters and all about the Ethiopean culture - and everything was so delicious! I was telling her how much I love lentil soup and without saying anything she brought me a complimentary cup - so sweet and thoughtful. Everything was incredibly fresh and flavorful and filling. The coffees were delicious too, spiced perfectly in the Ethiopian traditional way. We didn't have pastries but they looked fabulous. And the prices! Wubet can be charging so much more for everything you get but instead she cares so much about the community and wants to treat the students, teachers, and local workers in the community with low priced and high quality food (major deals here specifically for students and teachers!). The cafe is gorgeous with art all over the walls - bright, colorful, and vivacious to match Wubet's personality.

a month agoThird visit to Guzo Cafe today! The owner is so friendly and it always smells great walking in as she’s been cooking. I’ve had their delicious iced tea and Ethiopian chai (dirty), and today enjoyed the lentil soup & pastries with a friend. The lunch special can’t be beat for $10 and on 100% teff injera. Veg and meat options both tasty & hearty. The option to dine indoors, outdoors, or hop over to the park is perfect for the spring weather. Excited to keep coming here whenever I’m sitting in Hawthorne park.

a month agoBEST CAFE IN THE CITY! Lovely vibes, wonderful people, AMAAAAZING drinks and food. Was treated so kindly and they took such good care of me. Stopped in for a chai in the morning and ended up coming back for lunch the same day! Highly recommend! Much love <3

2 months agoIt’s like coming to your grandma for a homemade meal and getting fed whether or not you’re hungry, except Wubet is my age and keeps this homey warm energy in her cozy restaurant and ardently welcomes you. Also I love her turquoise & yellow mugs. This is my new Ethiopian food spot, my dogsitting cafe, my friend’s art gallery (she hangs up local artists’ work), and possibly a place I will be hosting events at (we dance Brazilian Zouk). This is just such a good place to build community, and feel a sense of belonging on a full heart and a full stomach.

3 months agoHidden gem of a coffee shop. Love the vibe here, fresh aromatic foods caught me from the doorway. Apparently they were testing out some off-menu samosas which were absolutely delicious. The matcha wasn’t overly sweet and the lentil soup had the right kick for chilly weather. Not only that but several patrons came through and the staff here take a genuine personal interest in their community members. It was really nice to see even if I was just passing through. Please tell them to add the samosas to the menu!

8 months agoEthiopian and Eritrean food in south Philly! Found through 2good2go, so excited to try it all. Started with a classic vegan platter with delicious tangy injera and iced tea. Local art and lovely vibes available in a cute Parkside cafe!

a year agoCute coffeeshop with reasonable prices and very tasty food. It was a pleasant surprise to discover this place and eat Ethiopian food as a light lunch. The waitress is learning which requires some patience but overall very nice space and food and coffee!

a year agoWe enjoyed the food, artsy vibe and a warm welcome at our weekend lunch. It was our first time eating Ethiopian food. The owner explained the dishes and reassured us that they wouldn't be too spicy. The menu includes vegetarian and vegan options. We devoured a dish called Alicha: carrots & potato puree, collard greens, yummy sauce eaten with flatbread. There's a wide variety of hot and cold beverages that you can customize with your favorite type of milk. Our dessert muffin and pumpkin bread were also fresh and delicious. The cafe welcomes dogs and offers dog treats. The cafe also supports local artists by featuring works for sale on their walls.
